Seed to sapling: Our Student Nursery is Growing

By Olalekan Adeyanju | Program Officer

Dear Valued Supporters,

Thank you for believing in the power of young people to protect our planet and shape their own futures.

This quarter, the Seed to School initiative at Ifaki Grammar School, Ifaki-Ekiti, Ekiti State Nigeria continued to take root. The students had already established their seedling nursery, and the seedlings they carefully sowed, nurtured and watered are now growing well.

At the start of the program, students filled hundreds of nursery bags with soil, arranged them in the nursery bed and sowed the seeds. They then took turns watering, with teachers and school staff looking on. Today those seedlings have grown into healthy, leafy plants, and the nursery has become a living classroom.

Beyond the nursery, the students gained hands-on skills in seedling cultivation, teamwork and environmental responsibility, and they now see trees as something to nurture from seed to maturity.

Impact at a Glance

  • 10 students aged 11-18 trained in nursery management.
  • Nursery bags filled and sown with Teak and Gmelina seeds
  • 2 teachers and school staff supported the activity.

Every seed came with a purpose: to grow into a seedling that greens the school, funds learning materials, or is passed on to the next group of students.

What's Next?

With your continued support, we plan to:

  • execute this project in 2 more underserved schools and communities in Ekiti State drawing from the lessons we learnt from the pilot
  • Train a new group of students to carry the nursery into its next cycle

Our goal is clear: help students grow trees, skills and confidence together.

Your Support Creates Real Change

Here's what your contribution makes possible:

  • $10 - Provides 50 high-quality tree seeds for student nursery training
  • $25 - Supplies 100 nursery bags and organic soil mix
  • $50 - Equips a student nursery team with a watering can, 150 nursery bags, 100 seeds and soil preparation materials
  • $100 - Covers a full practical nursery training session for 40-50 students
  • $250 - Establishes a mini student-managed nursery unit in one underserved school
  • $500 - Funds one complete growing cycle in a school, from seed to mature seedling

Each donation helps one more school grow greener and one more student learn with the materials they need.

Thank you for helping us grow futures in Nigeria, one seedling at a time.

With sincere appreciation,

The TGED Foundation Team

Ekiti State, Nigeria
