As Odisha's forests vanish under relentless development, starving elephants are driven from their homes, risking their lives to cross deadly highways in search of food. Each desperate journey ends in tragedy-more collisions, more deaths, more grief on both sides. Restoring degraded habitats with elephant-favored plants is no longer optional-it's a lifeline. Only by securing and restoring their migratory corridors can we keep these gentle giants safe and prevent this heartbreaking cycle of loss.
Odisha's elephants are homeless and terrified, their forests stolen by reckless development. With nowhere left to turn, they wander through villages, crossing deadly highways in search of food and water. Left to tackle with illegal fences, while enter farmland for food, many never make it back-struck by vehicles, electrocuted by wires. Mothers perish beside their calves, forests fall silent, and the earth mourns as the heartbeat of the wild fades-one elephant, one family, one forest at a time.
In Odisha's Pallahara and Susab regions, we're transforming farmland into safe corridors for elephants. Two hundred tribal people will plant 75,000 fruit-bearing, elephant-friendly trees and create waterholes, nurturing them for three growing seasons. Bamboo fencing will protect young saplings until they flourish, providing food and refuge for elephants. This is a true win-win-sustaining tribal livelihoods while restoring harmony between people, forests, and these gentle giants.
By restoring elephant habitats and planting elephant-favored fodder, we can prevent deadly highway crossings and drastically reduce elephant deaths. This proactive approach benefits both elephants and people, creating a true win-win. Employing tribal communities to plant and nurture saplings empowers local conservationists, builds livelihoods, and fosters stewardship of forests. In partnership with Paribartan and the tribal community, we are nurturing a future where humans and elephants thrive.
