Laying the Foundation for Independence

Our children from the Eersterivier Community

This year, 2025, marked a turning point for SAI-CAMH. Our programs grew faster than ever before — and with them, our people. For the first time in our history, we welcomed over 30 students, interns, and volunteers into our fold. These bright, compassionate individuals arrived eager to serve, to learn, and to help us expand our reach into schools and communities across the Western Cape.

But with growth came challenge.

With no dedicated space to host this growing team, we found ourselves piecing together temporary solutions — borrowing meeting rooms, rearranging office corners, holding training sessions in borrowed classrooms or coffee shops. It worked, for now; but it came at a cost. We lost valuable hours and money that could have gone to service delivery, to supervision, to planning.

What we learned through this struggle was powerful: if we had the space, it would be filled.

Why “Brick by Brick” Matters

The Brick-by-Brick Campaign is more than just a building fund. It’s a vision of independence and sustainability.

Across South Africa, community-based mental health organisations like ours often operate without a permanent home. This keeps us trapped in a cycle of dependency — reliant on borrowed venues, short-term funding, and logistical compromises that limit impact.

A permanent, purpose-built home would transform this reality. It would allow SAI-CAMH to:

  • Train and supervise volunteers, interns, and staff under one roof.

  • Host in-house workshops and group therapy sessions in a safe, welcoming space.

  • Offer skills development and vocational training to youth and community workers.

  • Create a central hub for coordination, innovation, and collaboration.

  • Generate income through renting out training spaces, boardrooms, and office facilities.

  • Accommodate volunteers and students from other regions or countries who come to learn from and serve with us.

In short, the bricks will not only build a structure, they will build independence.

“For every hour we spent searching for training venues, we could have been helping another child. A home of our own would mean time restored to service.” — Alison Crosbie, CEO

2025: A Year of Growth and Proof

This has been the year that proved the dream possible. With 30+ volunteers and interns, we witnessed the power of young people eager to contribute their energy and skill to the mental health and well-being of children and teens in our communities.

From emotional skills programs in schools to educator training and early intervention projects, these interns became the hands and hearts of SAI-CAMH. Their enthusiasm filled every borrowed space we could find, but it also made clear what we lack: a shared home.

Imagine walking into a space where every wall hums with purpose — where young professionals gather for supervision, educators attend trauma-informed workshops, and school counsellors are trained to identify early warning signs of distress.

That’s what the Brick-by-Brick Campaign is building.

A Home That Serves and Sustains

Our vision is not only to own a building, but to activate it.

Each room will serve a purpose — a training hall for school-based workshops, a counselling wing for teen therapy, an administrative hub to anchor our expanding programs, and accommodation for volunteers and student interns who give their time to serve.

By renting out meeting spaces, training rooms, and office areas, the building will also become an income-generating asset — ensuring SAI-CAMH can continue its work without constant dependence on donor cycles.

“A foundation built on compassion needs bricks to stand on.”

What We’re Asking You to Help Build

Every contribution, no matter the size, to this campaign is more than a donation — it’s a cornerstone of independence.

Together, these contributions will give us what we’ve worked toward for over a decade: a permanent space to grow, teach, and serve - one that will stand for generations to come.

A Vision Rooted in Service

The Brick-by-Brick Campaign is not about expansion for its own sake — it’s about deepening our impact.

When we can train on-site, we can reach more schools.
When we can supervise effectively, we can better support young practitioners.
When we can host, we can invite others to learn, share, and grow with us.

This building will not only house our team — it will house hope.

Help Us Lay the Next Brick

We invite our GlobalGiving family, supporters, and friends to walk this road with us. Whether you fund a brick, a room, or a wall, you’re helping us move from borrowed spaces to a foundation we can finally call home.

Together, we can make this dream tangible — brick by brick.
