This project empowers young students in rural Cambodian schools to break the cycle of poverty, strengthen household financial stability, and become catalysts for long-term community transformation through age-appropriate financial literacy and life skills education.
33% of families in KPY's 4 target provinces live in poverty, and their children are often kept from attending school in order to work, thus depriving them of the opportunity to learn the basic life skills they need to break out of poverty. The enrollment rate for lower secondary schools is only 72.5%, while another 15.5% of these students end up dropping out of school. Rural teachers are poorly trained to address these challenges.
FINANCIAL LITERACY AND LIFESKILLS TRAINING: KPY mobilizes teachers and school youth groups to catch a vision for the sustainable economic future of children and communities and trains teachers to provide financial literacy and life skills training to students, which equips them to escape the trap of poverty. These skills transform the lives of hundreds of needy students and multiply to their families as they learn basic communication skills, child rights, and financial literacy.
