What started as a dream 3 years ago - to provide safe, healthy, efficient services for orphaned raccoons - has been completed on time, a bit under budget (YAY!), and already being used to house raccoons. Since Oaken Acres Wildlife Center is the only large center in Illinois that accepts raccoons regardless of their size or age, it was an undertaking long past due. Our new center offers a clean, easy-to-santize, efficient workspace that benefits not only our patients but our staff. EVERYONE LOVES IT~
We incorporated an airflow system so that actual quarantine spaces do not contaminate other spaces in this building and we can safely isolate any sick individuals or litters, hoping to keep our other raccoons healthy.
The major donors to this building were invited to an open house on April 1. They were impressed and thrilled at what we accomplished and what will be the best orphaned raccoon facility in Illinois. Hands down!
Thank you to all the GlobalGiving donors who helped make this possible. We will now turn our focus to purchasing an xray machine to help us with diagnostics and treatment plans. Almost every patient that comes in with any leg, wing, or spinal injury (and ther are a LOT of them!) will benefit from this.
