Goal: To create an environment where children can educate themselves on topics of their interest and are guided by mentors. The aim of this project is to build a library in rural Kenya where children can get access to books they may not otherwise have. The library will also be a hub for youth activities, and will hopefully evolve into a school for community development. The current activities include horticulture, arts & crafts, IT, educational trainings and practical workshops.
Throughout COHESU's work within communities we have noticed a need for educational activities focusing on the children in rural Kenya. Apart from what is learned in school there are few opportunities to broaden one's horizon and to learn about topics outside school curricula. This project will allow the children to have a space for themselves where they can learn about topics of their interest and develop creative talents with the guidance from mentors.
By providing a center where children can come and read a variety of books, they may not otherwise have access to, we will create a social hub where the children can also engage in other beneficial activities such as group art therapy, talent development, and building on income-generating skills. The center will be a place where various professionals can schedule activities with the children, that can be beneficial to their overall health and give them inspiration for future choices.
The project can eventually grow into an education center where the children learn about community, its development and health, as well as other elements that directly affect them and their communities.
