The goal of this project is to build a library in rural Kenya where children can get access to books they may not otherwise have. The library will also be a hub for youth activities, and will hopefully evolve into a school for community development. The end goal is to create an environment where children can educate themselves on topics of their interest, with guidance from selected mentors. Our organization already has the land and book donations, but we need your help to build the library
Mental health in rural communities in Kenya is highly neglected, this leads to a great deal of suffering within the communities. Our organization works with the children (shoe giving and jiggers treatment in the western regions) of these communities, and we have noticed a need for healthy cathartic and creative activities within the communities. This project will allow the children to have a space of their own where they can learn more, and develop creative talents with guidance from mentors.
By providing a center where children can come and read a variety of books they may not otherwise have access to, we will create a social hub where the children can also engage in other beneficial activities such as group art therapy and talent development. The center will be place where various professionals can schedule activities with the children, that can be beneficial to their overall health.
The project can eventually grow into an education center where the children learn about community, its development and health, and other elements that directly affect them and their communities.
This project has provided additional documentation in a DOCX file (projdoc.docx).
