Thanks for your ongoing support for our project.
Playa Grande in Cahuita serves as the habitat for three distinct species of marine turtles, including the critically endangered Hawksbill and Leatherbacks, along with the endangered Caribbean Green turtles.
To safeguard the marine turtle population we work with Cahuita Turtle Rescue who lead community-driven conservation initiatives such as beach cleanups, nest harvesting, turtle releases, and educational campaigns.Cahuita Turtle Rescue collaborates closely with the local community to protect native wildlife and ensure the continued existence of marine turtles.
The turtles in this area face a significant risk of extinction due to various threats, including hunting, poaching, plastic pollution, coastal development, and unsustainable fishing. Less than 40% of hatchlings survive without human intervention.
We have contiued to contribute to data collection on nesting turtles. Additionally, we work with the local team to emphasize community-based conservation through educational initiatives, beach cleanups, campaigns advocating turtle protection, and the development of comprehensive conservation action plans.
Your continued support will help us to research equipment and educational resources to allow this project continue to make a positive impact.
Your support is appreciated and we look forward to updating you in the next quarter.
