Baby of Pavithra 3 months male baby is a preterm male baby born at 29 weeks with birth weight of 1200gms. The baby was treated with laser intervention to both eyes for ROP at Hassan, Karnataka, India. The baby was referred from hassan to our hospital for retinal evaluation and needful management. The findings were - baby was detected with ROP in stage IV in left eye, partially detached retina with macula off, persisting ROP in right eye. The baby was advised to undergo right eye augmented laser treatment & surgical intervention of Vitrectomy to left eye to attach the retina. As the baby was 3 months old, it required ICU backup & neo natal care services post surgery.
Plan of treatment
Surgical intervention of Vitrectomy to left eye and augumented laser treatment to right eye under general anaesthesia was planned to save sight in both eyes. The surgery lasted for 3 hrs & was uneventful. Post surgery, the baby was shifted to ICU equipped hospital with round the clock doctor care. The baby was in intensive care unit & monitored for 1 day & was discharged with an advice for compliance to follow-up.
