3541 individual babies in screening net
A Typical case
Baby Tanusha & Anusha - are twins and were referred from Hassan for ROP evaluation and treatment. This small distcit town is about 120 miles from Bangalore and has only rudimentary facitilies for detection and treatment of complex conditions like ROP. Both female babies aged 5 1/2 months were evaluated by Dr.Chitralekha De.
The parents were unaware of ROP and how it affects prematurely born babies & how it has affected Baby Anusha. The changes and vision losss in
Baby Anusha are irreversable. however we were able to treat Baby Tanusha due to the early detection of her condition. An early screening would have helped her sister save sight as well.
The project continues its impact actoss 11 districts in our state. since the last reporting period, 214 community health workers have been trained and sensitised in the need for early and regular screening. This has ensured that communities we serve also participate in the cause of these vulnerable infants
The project is also in the process of compiling and publishing scientific data from our efforts which we hope will ensure that better and more implementatble protocols are agreed upon.
