The Sotry of Asha's Baby
Background: This lovely girl child was born on the 29th of January 2015 at 28 weeks of gestation. Nearly 12 weeks before the normal delivery date. She weighed a tiny 1500 grams at birth. The parents stay at a village about 40 kms from the City of Mysore and are poor. The baby’s father works as a road repair machine operator and earns on a daily wage basis, a total of about Rs.3000( USD 50 per month) besides some minor earnings from odd jobs. The mother is a home maker. The baby born at the Cheluvamba Government Maternity Hospital at Mysore was admitted to the neo natal intensive care unit for management of complications .
The baby was included in the vision screening programme and was seen to have retinopathy of prematurity with the need for photo coagulation.The baby has undergone both eyes laser treatment on 04.04.2015. The baby was reviewed on 13.05.2015. Both eyes ROP was regressing but ridge was noted temporally posterior to laser scars. The baby was advised for augmentation laser intervention in both eyes. The baby underwent both eyes laser treatment again on 22.05.2015
