Beating COVID-19 through evidence-based science

Summary

2020 has surely been a year that not many will forget easily. For the first time in a very long time the whole world has teamed up to fight the same battle: COVID-19. It has caused a lot of harm however we can look back at it and come up with three main takeaways: -The urge to invest in Science to investigate the disease and come up with a vaccine -Increase financial support for investigators to communicate their findings -The obligation and need to educate society to better battle this disease

Challenge

Society nowadays is bombarded with fake news, conspiracies and false diagnosis. Our duty as scientists is to make an impact in society, not only by investigating to cure this disease but also by educating people from across the world on how to behave, treat and investigate COVID-19. Along with that, funds need to be allocated to the coverage of additional costs associated to combining scientists' bench work with their contribution to disseminate knowledge and findings.

Solution

We need your help! All contributions will provide expert researchers with immediate economic help for research and dissemination. The non-profit association Apadrina la Ciencia has proven in many different occasions their capacity to identify optimal beneficiaries and contribute to society with effective actions. Donations will be destined to: - Financial support to publish findings, research and studies on coronavirus and COVID-19-derived societal problems. - Outreach activities

Long-Term Impact

This investment in research is going to be focused on three main areas: investigating faster diagnostic methods and successful vaccines, determine efficient social ways to stop COVID-19 spreading and disseminate evidence-based science to educate society to better battle this disease. Altogether will result in improved scientific knowledge and a significant economic return. Not only that, but it will have an enormous social impact by saving thousands of people's lives.
