We're uplifting the Scientific capacity of the entire nation of Uganda. We're doing that by installing The Global Uplift Project's Science Lab in a Box (SLaB) in 50 under-resourced high schools throughout the country. SLaB provides all the equipment, instruments, supplies, and curriculum to allow developing world high school students to do world class laboratory work in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. The project is supported by Rotary International clubs throughout the country.
There is a very low level of scientific literacy in Uganda because the high schools don't have the equipment and supplies they need to teach science. This limits the type and amount of economic activity that is possible in the economy. With improved science capabilities, the economy will expand beyond basic needs. Science improves lives through advancements in healthcare, technology, and daily conveniences, leading to increased life expectancy, global connectivity, and a higher quality of life.
Initial installations of the Science Lab in a Box resulted in 80% improvement in nationally-normed test scores (SAT-equivalents) within the first six months. The project will touch 200,000 high schools students over its 3-year duration, dramatically improving the number of students prepared for STEM-related university studies.
If the project raises the cumulative GDP of the economy by 1/1,000th of 1% in 10 years, it will pay for itself 200 times over. Local officials expect a 5/1,000th of 1% improvement, which will pay for itself 1,000 times over.
