Plans to build sanitary blocks in the schools are ongoing. These blocks will be separated by gender, with latrines, handwashing stations, and urinals for boys on one side, and latrines, handwashing stations, special changing rooms and incinerators used to dispose of menstrual rags for girls on the other side. Teachers are being trained in hygiene education focusing on hand washing at appropriate times. In addition, they are trained in proper handling of food, safe water storage, safe disposal of garbage and human waste, and hygienic disposal of menstrual waste. School water and sanitation committees composed of both students and teachers are being formed. These committees will be trained on proper maintenance of the AMAL arsenic filters and school sanitary blocks, and will be responsible for overseeing proper use and upkeep of facilities and promotion of hygiene within the school.
