Even though at has only been a few days, generous donors have already provided sufficient funds for 2 water tanks to be built! As we promised in the project plan, these funds will allow one tank to be built at each of 2 primary schools.
The schools that will receive these initial water tanks will be Hope Community Mbaliga Primary School and Kibiribiri Primary school. Their locations are shown on the map below. Planning for the building of the tanks has already begun and work will commence as soon as the funds are received by KIRUCODO.
As an update to the project plan, we are examining the possibility of enlarging the size of each tank from 2500 litres as we think that several of the schools have buildings with roofs large enough that they can support the use of a larger tank (larger roofs allow more water to be collected, making a larger tank feasible). This will be done by modifying the existing formwork by extending the outside face of the form. We are confident that by doing this the tank size can be increased to at least 3000 litres and are hoping that we may even be able to double the size to 5000 litres. If this is possible, then we also believe that we can construct the larger tanks for much less than the current estimate of $1100 per school (2 tanks at $550 each). If successful this will allow us to build tanks at more than the 4 schools identified for this project. An update on our success in this effort will be included in a future report.
Again, we thank you for your support and requesting you to pass on the information to your friends and families for possible support.
