Children in disaster-affected areas of Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra are still struggling to return to school. Many families lost homes, livelihoods, and school supplies. Human Initiative's assessment found that 56.31% of respondents need school supplies to help children stay in school.
More than eight months after the disaster, many families are still recovering. Children may lack school bags, books, uniforms, and stationery, while household income remains limited. Around 36% of children are at risk of dropping out due to damaged schools, financial hardship, transportation barriers, and trauma.
Through this project, Human Initiative will provide School Kits to children in disaster-affected communities across Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. The kits will include essential learning supplies such as school bags, books, stationery, uniforms, and other school needs, helping children return to class with the basic items they need to continue learning.
School Kits can reduce one of the barriers preventing children from returning to education. By helping families meet essential school needs, this project can support children to stay in school, regain a sense of routine, and continue pursuing their future. Human Initiative's recovery plan aims to help 28,580 affected children regain safe and sustainable access to education.
