The start of an academic year brings with it the excitement of learning new things and creating new possibilities. Many children from vulnerable backgrounds are deprived of this, owing to lack of basic educational material. With many of them not having requisite notebooks and stationery, it is a challenge for them to learn and therefore remain interested in education. What started as a 5000 school kit challenge, thanks to your support, we were able to reach out to 5200 students from 35 government schools in north Bangalore, giving them access not only to school kits but a brighter future!
The happiness on receiving brand new colourful kits was visible not only on the faces of students but also had a deep impact on parents and communities as well. Senior and respected members of the communities around the schools were very appreciative of the school kits. “These are basic needs for education, and when people are making an effort to provide even the smallest of things so that children go to school, we will do all that we can to ensure our children go to school and get good education”, said an influential member from one of the communities.
The school kits have not just made the academic year brighter for some students but have also motivated many more to attend school. Head Mistress of Government Urdu Higher Primary School, Chamundinagar, was elated at the increase in strength. “The bright colourful bags and brand new stationery motivated many students who had dropped out, or were extremely irregular, to come back to school. Seeing many of their friends going to school smartly dressed along with the kits, they also wanted to be proud owners of the kits and a part of this group. They are now attending classes more regularly”.
Most parents of students from government schools find it very hard to make ends meet, let alone provide materials to their children. “It is a struggle for me when my child comes home and asks for even one notebook, as with great difficulty I manage to get her uniforms. It gives me great joy to see her happily write and interested in studying”, shared the mother of a student from Government Kannada Higher Primary School, Chalgatta.
Your investment has not just made the academic year promising for many children but have also positively impacted the government schools and the communities around. A seemingly small effort can bring about big changes. Thank you for your contribution and support which has helped us to together challenge the predictable future of thousands of children!
We look forward to your continued support!
