In the UK alone, 500,000 children go to school hungry each day, and an estimated 870,000 children in England may be going to bed hungry each night. Children need a healthy and nutritious diet in order to grow into healthy adults. We need your help to run school holiday activities in Lambeth and Wandsworth for children living in poverty, where the children will receive the meals that they would otherwise miss during the school holidays, as well as fun educational and cultural activities!
800,000 children across the UK go to school hungry each day. Children going hungry and their access to healthy, nutritious food is severely limited, especially for those living on the breadline. One major consequence of food insecurity is ill health & malnutrition, especially amongst those who are forced to buy calorie dense but nutritionally void foods. This exposure risks damaging their prospects of gaining a good education and living a healthy life. And COVID has only made this worse.
We will be running school holiday clubs for children living below the poverty line. The club gives children the chance to take part in a range of fun and educational activities such as arts and crafts, dance and cookery. Children will also receive a warm, nutritious meals that they would otherwise miss during the school holidays. This project aims to help create a safe space for kids to thrive in over a two week period so that they can return to school feeling nourished, strong and supported.
When kids are fed and engaged over the school holidays, they return to school more prepared and able to learn and progress in life
