SESSO Project Report - January 2023

By Erin Knesek and Gabriel Maluak | Project Leaders

Dear Project Supporters,

Happy 2023! We are happy to bring you the first project report of 2023 to update you on how your generosity continues to make an impact in the lives of the children you are supporting, and to thank you once again for your support. SESSO is only able to complete our goals because of support from you, our generous donors.

January 2023 Student Highlights: SESSO’s Student Extra Curricular Activities

  • Our students are doing well academically, but for this update we thought we would mix it up a little bit, and update our sponsors on some of their extra-curricular activities! As most of us know, grades and academics are extremely important, but it is also important to help shape children's lives by encouraging involvement in sports or other activities outside of the classroom. The following highlight a few of those activites for some of our students:
  • Four months ago, James joined the school student’s hygiene club, which was specifically established in response to helping fight against cholera. He is being trained with his club members to educate their colleagues on personal hygiene as well as keeping the school environment clean.
  • Sebit is a soccer midfielder in his school team and scored four (4) goals during the last semester-two inter-school soccer competitions. His school ended up in 2nd place out of 27 schools!
  • Nyamuch has been playing netball in school. For those unfamiliar with netball, according to Wikipedia, "Netball is a ball sport played on a court by two teams of seven players. It is among a rare number of sports which have been created exclusively for female competitors. The sport is played on indoor and outdoor netball courts and is specifically played in schools..." "... It started in England, and according to the sport's international governing body, World Netball, the sport is played by more than 20 million people in more than 80 countries..."

General Update on SESSO-Sponsored Students:

  • The 2022-2023 school year is nearly finished, and SESSO has paid the total for the entire school year for all 6 sponsored students, ranging from grades 6 to 10. The school year ends March 2023.
  • SESSO is still working to raise funds for the 2023-2024 school year and is hopeful that sponsorship for all 6 students will be possible again. The generosity experienced at the end of 2022 helped make this outlook bright!

Plans Moving Forward:

  • SESSO continues to be grateful for all of our donors who make funding of these students’ education possible. With your help, these orphans are receiving a new hope for their future, and we are confident that this hope and opportunity you have helped give them will allow them to make big changes for the future of South Sudan.
  • We will keep you updated as the 2022-2023 school year finishes up in March, and will also update donors on how we are doing with raising funds for the upcoming school year. Please also feel free to visit our Facebook page for more detailed updates and information, and feel free to reach out to us anytime!

Thank you for taking this journey with us and invite you to stay with us and watch the fruits of your generosity over the years as these students progress through school and on into adulthood.
