146 Primary school students and their 5 teachers are getting ready for the cold. Winter in Dir makes the area snowbound. Before the two month long winter holidays the students will finish their mid-year exams. Teachers have completed their training in English, Math, Science and ECE. It is expected that the students will do quite well in their studies this year.
This has been an exciting year for the Zarbaig students. DIL provided XO Laptops for the students so they could start learning computers. Not only did the students learn quickly, they started teaching their teachers! In another program 2 out of the 5 teachers have been selected to participate in a teacher training program that will be delivered through mobile phones. The excitement of the teachers and students runs high. Knowing they will have a new school building next year has only added to their determination.
One of the teachers teaching at Zarbaig is a DIL School graduate. She is one of the first few girls from her village to complete her education. Ramina is the first graduate of Zarbaig village to become a teacher. She is a role model for the 98 girls in the school. She also presents an image of women demanding respect for the 48 boys whom she teaches.
