Dear valued donors,
We are thrilled to announce that we have reached another milestone in our project thanks to your generous support. With the funds raised, we were able to purchase 15 tons of reinforcement for the construction of School No 64 in Somoniyon Village, Isfara City, Soughd Province, Tajikistan, at a cost of TJS 141,125 (USD 12,741). However, we regret to inform you that the school was fully destroyed during the armed conflict on the Tajik-Kyrgyz border in September 2022, leaving almost 500 students and 50 teachers without access to education facilities.
Despite the extreme situation, we remain committed to our goal of enabling 500 students to have access to education in their own village. The Isfara City Executive Authorities have secured financial support of USD 200,000 for the construction of a new building with 7 classrooms, one room for teachers, and one room as the office of the School Principal. However, due to the conflict, the Soughd Province Governor has instructed the construction of the school with a basement that could serve as a shelter in case of need, which has increased the initial estimate by TJS 850,000 (almost USD 80,000 according to the current exchange rate).
In consultation with the Isfara City Executive Authorities, we decided to support them with the procurement of 15 tons of reinforcement and 16m3 of wood. We purchased the reinforcement in consultation with the Engineer of the Construction Company contracted for the school construction, ensuring that they get the products they need. We procured the reinforcement transparently and participatorily in the presence of a representative from the construction company, NGO Sadoqat, and the beneficiary school. The total cost was TJS 141,125 (USD 12,741), which we mobilized through different methods, including two charity concerts, direct grants from donor companies, and donations generously made by our distinguished donors through GlobalGiving.
We are pleased to inform you that the reinforcement was successfully delivered to the project site today, and we hope it will help accelerate the construction of the school so that the students can pursue their studies in their village without having to travel 6km from their residence area. We have attached pictures, videos, and the procurement invoice to this report for your reference.
However, the financial need remains significant due to unexpected costs emerging from the conflict. We have agreed with the Isfara City Executive Authorities to further support them with the procurement of furniture, and we hope that with your continued support, we will be able to accomplish this milestone as well.
We once again express our sincere gratitude for choosing our cause among many wonderful initiatives on GlobalGiving and for your continued support in helping underprivileged Tajik young people in remote areas access education. We would be grateful if you could share our cause with your friends, colleagues, and family members to enable us to do more for those in need. Thank you once again for your generous contributions.
