School for 600 children victim of war in DR Congo

Our school, like all others in our country, has been on holiday since July 1st. The school year has generally gone well. Of the 64 children enrolled at the beginning of the school year, 59 were able to complete the year and all did well; 5 were unable to complete the year for various reasons: their parents having sought refuge abroad, illness, or their parents having moved.

The school principal is pleased with this situation: "Watoto kumaliza mwaka wa shule kwa uwingi hivi mwa hiyi maeneo ya vita, ni jambo nzuri sana." This phrase in Swahili means "It is a good thing that so many children were able to complete the year successfully in our war-torn environment."

During this month of August, our teachers will participate in a pedagogical training program organized by the educational inspectors of the Fizi region. The school director, currently on vacation in Katanga, is preparing to return to the school to register new students.

We sincerely hope that the concerning security situation in the Fizi highlands, particularly in the area near us known as "Point Zero," will allow us to begin classes next September.

We are continuing to stockpile construction materials and hope to be able to begin building soon.
