I don’t know if you heard about but seams that now rhino poaching reached even us in Namibia in Etosha Park. A few weeks ago 31 carcasses have been found. This is a real disaster and so sad. Mammadu thought to do something for these wonderful animals and we spoke a lot with the kids about, they made a lovely poster and wrote wonderful words for the safeguard of the rhinos and they put together a little drama. King Universe (Petrus) is very sick, the Queen (Aruma) find’s out that there is a special medicine which seams to help, made out of rhino horns. The king sends all his poachers to Africa to kill all the rhinos and bring him the horns. In Etosha park the last few rhinos (all our little ones) are peacefully eating, Daddy Rhino (Kevin) instructs Baby Rhino Mammadu (Josia) to eat from that tree so that he becomes strong and powerful like his dad, Mamie Rhino (Mekupi) doesn’t want her son to go too far away as she is scared of lions, but Baby Rhino moves away as instructed by his dad. When the poachers arrive, they kill all the rhinos and leave with the horns, just baby rhino survived behind the tree, he finds his whole family and all his friends killed and starts crying, but the Great Spirit of all Rhinos (Augusto) appears and tells him to go to king Universe to teach him that rhino horns wont help to make him feel better, he could chew his own nails and it would be the same, the King needs a true doctor! So they travel all over the world to King Universe. The King even after he finished all his rhino horn Shakes is still dying when Baby Rhino arrives with the Doctor (Lukas). The Doctor quickly does surgery, takes out the tumour and The King is fine and happy again, but Baby Rhino is crying desperately because he is the only survivor, so The King decides immediately to fly Baby Rhino together with an other few rhinos from his personal zoo in his private jet back to Etosha, where they can live and grow in peace as they are protected for ever by King Universe.
The kids did great, learned their parts by hart and acted wonderfully, the most difficult part was to keep the “dead” rhinos dead, the little ones really struggled not to move, not to talk and not to giggle but at the end the managed!
If some one of you is good in drawings or knows somebody else, we could make a book for kids out of this story to support the Rhinos!! Let me know.
