Many children in Haiti struggle to pay for school books. This makes it difficult for them to attend and learn. By removing this barrier, you can help us open a path to education, literacy, and hope!
To attend public elementary school in Haiti, families must purchase school books for their children. These books are extremely expensive, costing roughly $50 US for each child each year. In many cases, the cost of books, combined with other hardships and financial obstacles, prevent children from attending school, getting an education, and learning to read.
We lend school books to the children if they promise to remain in school. This year, we need to purchase and distribute roughly 30,000 new text books. We also work with the schools to collect and redistribute as many textbooks as possible. For the last 15 years, Haiti Lumiere de Demain has worked in partnership with the public schools--and with donors like you--to accomplish this goal. We can only succeed with your help!
We've seen the impact of this program emerge over the last few years. The result is more than just an educated child. Through this collaboration, these children and their families learn lessons about community, empowerment, and how to positively impact the world around them. Just this year, some of the older children took it upon themselves to plant 15,000 trees to commemorate our 15 years together. This is a great example of how this program impacts these students and, through them, our world.
