School & Wellness Supplies for 2,000 Omaha Kids

As a new school year begins, Habitat & Education Promotion is excited to share another important step in our commitment to helping children in the Omaha community start school prepared and ready to learn.

Over the past several weeks, our team has been collecting, sorting, and preparing school supplies for distribution to our partner schools in the Omaha area.

Our current collection includes approximately 200–250 school-supply items, including spiral and composition notebooks, colorful folders, filler paper, washable school glue, glue sticks, colored pencils, scissors, pencils, markers, and other essential classroom materials.

These supplies are scheduled to be delivered to our partner schools this Friday, August 14, 2026, so that schools can make them available to students and classrooms as the new academic year begins.

Removing Barriers to Learning

For many families, back-to-school expenses can quickly become a financial burden, particularly when several children are returning to school at the same time. Basic items such as notebooks, folders, paper, glue, scissors, and colored pencils are essential for classroom participation but can add significantly to household expenses.

Through our School & Wellness Supplies for 2,000 Omaha Kids project, Habitat & Education Promotion works alongside local schools to help ensure that children have access to the basic resources they need to participate fully in their education.

These supplies represent more than classroom materials. A notebook gives a child a place to complete an assignment. A folder helps a student stay organized. Glue, scissors, and colored pencils allow children to participate in classroom projects alongside their classmates.

Our goal is simple: a lack of basic school supplies should never become a barrier to a child's opportunity to learn and succeed.

Working Directly With Schools

Rather than assuming what families need, we continue working directly with our school partners to better understand their priorities and provide supplies that can be distributed where they are most needed.

This week's delivery is one part of that ongoing partnership. As the school year progresses, we will continue communicating with schools about additional educational and wellness needs and look for opportunities to mobilize donors, volunteers, and community partners to respond.
