We are incredibly proud of our 2020-21 scholars who demonstrated remarkable resilience and grace during such a challenging year. These students celebrated their commencement this spring.
SGSNY scholars are majority immigrant or first-generation American with Commonwealth links and many are the first-generation college students. 70% are female and 98% are Black or people of color.
Some are now preparing to begin their postgraduate education, while others have already embarked on the next phase of their careers.
One scholar commented:
Thank you for your generosity and the personal investment and good faith you have put into my future. Overall, the scholarship played an important role in making college more accessible and affordable, and paving the way for me to be successful in both their pursuit and completion of my degree. The scholarship helped me to alleviate the financial burden higher education leaves and served as an inspiration as I continue with my studies. I was able to focus on my studies and was at ease of following and achieving my academic goal. -- Felicia, B.A. Business Administration, Lehman College
Thanks to the generosity of our friends at Chilmark Builders, we delivered special graduation gifts to our scholars help them mark this once-in-a-lifetime milestone.
