Lucy is in her final year of Lehman College’s Nursing program. When we introduced Lucy in August, she had just welcomed her second child. She credits the St. George’s Society scholarship with her ability to successfully complete her degree while raising a young family.
We checked in with Lucy to find out about her progress now that she's completed her fall semester.
It feels like it’s been a short year filled with so many things to be thankful for. One of them being the addition to the family and another receiving the scholarship from St. George's Society of New York and Coller Capital. I feel so blessed!
The scholarship has made a big difference in my academic journey. It's empowered me to be able to maximize the college experience by using my time more wisely in school. I didn't have to seek for additional work to support myself/family and have made the most of my time by focusing on school; which has led better grades and increased my chances of finishing successfully.
At the beginning of the semester, I felt overwhelmed, and scared wondering how I would cope with my newborn. I eventually found my stride by setting small achievable goals day by day. I would also note how supportive Lehman College has been to students like me. Having a space to study at the childcare center and providing a lactation room has been an invaluable resource for which I'm very thankful for.
It's been an incredible year that I'll never forget and will remain forever grateful to St. George's Society of New York and Coller Capital for bringing me this far. God bless you all!
