Report on Scholarships for Intelligent but Needy Students

By Bonnie Mendes | Project Leader

Sawan, son of Azmat, lives in Ch# 424, Tehsil Gojra. His father works as a laborer, earning a meager income, which barely meets the family’s basic needs. Despite this, Sawan harbors a deep desire to continue his education, but the pressure from his father to work alongside him makes it difficult for him to focus on his studies. Sawan dreams of a brighter future, one where he can break free from the cycle of poverty that has held his family back for generations. His passion for education and his vision of changing his family’s circumstances keep him going.

One day, after the Sunday prayer service, Sawan met Father Simon Khursheed and shared his aspirations and struggles. Father Simon listened attentively and encouraged him to visit the Society for Human Development (SHD) office on Monday. This meeting turned out to be a turning point in Sawan's life.

Reflecting on this pivotal moment, Sawan recalls, “The day I received the scholarship was one of immense joy and relief for both me and my family. The financial burden of educational expenses, which had always seemed insurmountable, was lifted. The Society for Human Development scholarship gave me the confidence to pursue my studies with renewed dedication.”

Thanks to the scholarship, Sawan is now studying in grade 12 and is more determined than ever to achieve his educational goals. He believes that with the opportunity to continue his studies, he can change not only his own life but also the future of his family. His story is one of hope and perseverance, a reminder of the power of education to transform lives.
