New Academic Session Begins
By Shisir Khanal | Executive Director
Thank you for your generous support to the children of Nepal. Last month new academic year began in Nepal. This year also we have 40 students who need scholarship support.
In addition to continue to education to children from underprivileged families, we are working to provide them the best possible education. We have now partnered with one of the highly regarded private schools in Nepal to provide a three month long teachers training to our own teachers.
We also continue to construct a new building, when completed, this would provide much better learning environment for our 300 children in school.
This year we are thinking of developing a system so that you can sponsor a specific student through her/his academic year. If you are interested in sponsoring a child for her education, please let us know.
It's only about $15 a month to sponsor a child.
Thank you for your awesome support.

Constructing New School Building
By Shisir Khanal | Project Leader
Academic year ends in March in Nepal. This year Jyotidaya School educated 283 children, the school for 40 of them wouldn't have been possible without your support. Thank you so much.
In summer 2010, Sarvodaya USA was a runner up on Chase Community Giving program. The fund we won on that Facebook based campaign is now helping us construct a new eco-friendly building for Jyotidaya School. As a community run school that receives no government support, the school had to move into several houses over the last few years. Now, with the new building will not only provide a permanent base for the school but also will provide better learning environment for children. Moreover, the new infrastructure will provide educational opportunities to 500 children.
You can watch the video of ongoing construction effort through following links:
We also have a new project posted on Global Giving: http://www.globalgiving.org/projects/build-a-green-school-in-nepal/
Again, thank you for your support to our children. I hope you can renew your support for the next year's education. The new academic year will begin in April.

Radhika Goes to School
By Shisir Khanal | Project Leader

Thank you for your support. Your contribution helps many children, a story of one.
When 8-year-old Radhika Deshar's father passed away due to kidney failure, her family was left in destitute. The family had spent significant money on his treatment. Like most families in rural Nepal, her mother was a housewife. Despite some local efforts to support the family, economic circumstances forced one of her older sisters to leave school to work at a garment factory. However, Radhika goes to school. She studies for free at Jyotidaya School in Nepal, a Sarvodaya-supported community-run school. Through Jyotidaya School, Radhika and several other children from poor and underprivileged families receive quality education. About 280 students study at Jyotidaya, while most pay affordable fees, one out of 8 children studies for free.
On behalf of everyone you have touched through your generosity, we wish you a wonderful 2011. May be you filled with peace, love, and happiness.
Happy New Year!
