Our SV-SLI scholars have greatly benefited from the generous support of donors from GlobalGiving. The money raised will be spent helping students pay for college courses they are taking while still in high school. Many of our scholars are taking college courses that will count toward both college and high school credits. Taking these courses will offset the cost of a four-year college for most participants (most scholars will leave high school with one year--in some cases more-- of college credit finished). Students begin this work during their junior year of high school and will finish prior to graduation. Currently, two SV-SLI scholars are enrolled in the program with three more scholars entering next year.
Additionally, we recently inducted our Class of 2017 scholars from both Handley High School in Winchester and Harrisonburg High School. SV-SLI now has 12 scholars at Harrisonburg and 6 at Handley. These 18 students represent some of the best and brightest students at their school. The money raised not only helps offset tuition of college course work, but assists SLI in providing college prep courses that focus on the rigor expected when the students go to college.
Thanks to all of our donors for helping make the dreams of our scholars come true!
