Our team at Tapir Mountain Nature Reserve remains actively engaged in Protected Area management, maintaining routine ranger patrols and continuing wildlife monitoring across the PA through using camera traps. These ongoing field operations allow us to get crucial biodiversity data and maintain visible enforcement presence to protect local habitats.
Managing a protected area comes with distinct operational hurdles, particularly surrounding staff retention. Recently, we have experienced the loss of two field team members and are working diligently to recruit and fill in these crucial positions. Despite these staffing shortages, our remaining team members continue to demonstrate resilience and dedication on the frontlines.
Through successful fundraising leverage, we recently upgraded our rangers’ operational gears, outfitting them with new motorcycle helmets, GPS units, and SMART devices, though key needs like sturdy boots, proper patrol uniforms remain pending.
The data collected from our upgraded tools feed directly into our Q2 and Q3 2026 SMART reports, providing valuable insights into law enforcement effectiveness showing that the rangers, in a span of 6 months, have managed to complete 19 patrols and covered 7.9 square kilometers across the entire reserve.
