José is a 65-year-old man who has been a patient of Hospital Pablo Tobón Uribe since 2010
due to multiple medical treatments he has required over the years. One of such procedures
is an exam that is performed every four months via endoscopy. This treatment includes the
replacement of a biliary stent with the purpose of removing the blockage from one of his
biliary ducts.
During his diagnostic stage more than one year ago, José came to the Hospital due to his
issues related to the biliary duct, which caused him abdominal and back pain, in addition to a
constant itch. Once he was duly referred to surgery, the doctors determined that the best
option for José was to proceed with a biliary endoscopy with the objective of placing a stent.
This procedure allowed expanding the area of the narrowed biliary duct, thus enabling the
normal flow of bile.
Thanks to this procedure, which is minimally invasive, the patient’s quality of life was
improved safely and avoiding the risks of complications. José has undergone this procedure
five times and he has stated that he feels healthy and comfortable.
