Wild Nest Bird Rehab, Inc. provides compassionate and veterinary experienced care to over 1,400 injured, ill and orphaned wild birds brought to our center annually by the public. We do not charge for our services, and they are available to all. We are 100% volunteer led for the work that we do. We serve the broader Metro-Atlanta area and operate within a community of rehabilitators to find appropriate care for any species we do not treat in house.
The bird population in the United States has declined by 30% in the past 50 years: that's more than 1 in 4 birds. Human activity is the leading contributor to the decline due to habitat destruction, cars, buildings, insecticides, glue traps and domestic pets. Wild Nest was founded with the mission to rehabilitate Georgia's injured and orphaned birds for release back to the wild, expand rehabilitator capacity, and to educate the public about bird conservation.
Wild Nest is the only wildlife rehabilitation and education center in the state of Georgia dedicated to wild birds. In 2024 we helped rescuers from over 90 counties. We not only serve as a location for rescuers to bring birds to us for rehabilitation, but we also provide a public service via our online reference tool and a helpline for the public. Wildlife rehabilitation services are not funded by the government. We rely on the support of individuals, foundations and businesses.
The work that we do directly contributes to the conservation of wild bird species and the native birds in our communities. Since 2020 we have provided care for over 5,700 patients and over 140 species. In 2024 we had a survival rate of 64% for the patients that survived the first 24 hours in treatment. Our volunteer program includes an advancement track for those wanting to obtain their rehabilitation license thereby expanding the community's ability to assist wildlife in need.
