Thank you for your interest and support for our lifesaving Educational Saving America's Horses project. We are pleased to bring you this update about this important effort.
A chief objective of WFLF’s Saving America’s Horses release project is to expand distribution to a wider population and to educate the public about the urgent global humanitarian crisis directly related to the critical need to protect the horses, people and the environment. Saving America’s Horses is created as a powerful educational social action tool for people who want to engage and make a difference while promoting wild horse conservation and preservation initiatives – the prevention of equine cruelty – and the support of returning wild horse and burro populations to the wild and the provision of lifelong sanctuary for equines in need.
In the absence of federal protection, over 100,000 American wild and domestic horses and burros are shipped across federal borders to slaughterhouses each year. Wild horses and burros are rapidly diminishing in the wild and there is no guarantee of humane treatment for any equines in America once they are labeled for slaughter. Special interests are aggressively targeting American tax dollars to re-open horse slaughter in the U.S. The public health risks are many; the health and environmental impacts are grave.
Saving America’s Horses, the documentary film spotlights these urgent global environmental and humanitarian crises. Just earlier this year we announced the release of the featurette version of the full length documentary ‘Saving America's Horses’. The powerful film contrasts shots of noble, beautiful, galloping animals with well-researched, shocking statistics and brings to screen a searing indictment of special interests and governmental agencies involved in the predatory exploits of America's horses. Viewers are now able to watch the film through Vimeo On-Demand in HD or SD on their TVs, phones, computers and tablets.
When public outcry against the BLM advisory board recommended killing of 45,000 wild American horses and burros reached mainstream level it caught the attention of some of the most powerful mainstream media outlets. The combination of these factors brought increased exposure to the systemic mistreatment and reckless mismanagement of the wild horses and our public lands. However, this in turn caused a detrimental backlash of criticism against the government and the BLM and a subsequent flurry of news reports based on statements by BLM spokespersons have headlined a false positive result for America’s horses. This has effectively left the public in the dark. The public has been duped and we believe the public deserves to know that America's wild horses and burros are still in danger.
As part of the Saving America’s Horses Educational platform, we have recently released a special PSA Series featuring excerpts straight from the full length version of the awarding winning documentary, SAVING AMERICA'S HORSES: A NATION BETRAYED. These are 1-2 minute PSA's made available by the Wild For Life Foundation (WFLF) as powerful social action tools for the purpose of educating the public and to refute the myths and misinformation which has essentially duped many people and left useless the laws which are supposed to protect these animals.
Our current target is to raise $35,000, which is estimated to cover crucial production and outreach expenses for the next level of release through educational venues and DVD. Financial contributions are urgently needed to make this objective a reality. Through GlobalGiving, with your continued kind and generous support we’ve raised $2240 through 85 donations to date, toward our overall goal of $35,000. Your vital support is what makes it possible for the Wild For Life Foundation to carry out this work.
We are reaching out to spread the word about the vital need for recurring donations through our GlobalGiving platform. Monthly giving is the easiest way to support this crucial lifesaving mission. Your thoughtful donations are vital for the lifesaving work that we do. Your support in sharing information about this important cause will undoubtedly help us to come closer to our goal. “America's horses are disappearing and along with them goes a part of us, says filmmaker, Katia Louise. “We can't bring back those we've lost, but we have the power to make a difference for generations to come.” In an effort to save, protect and preserve wild and domestic equines, as opposed to the promotion of horse slaughter and widespread roundups throughout the American West, Saving America’s Horses’ Director, Katia Louise is calling on members of the public who care about the horses and the environment to join in a united stance for the horses with Saving America’s Horses by sharing information about this important cause with their networks.
