The Fight for Freedom Continues through Saving America's Horses

By Katia Louise | Director, Filmmaker

Get the facts & expose the truth about the ongoing push to reopen horse slaughter in the U.S. with facts about the longtime the pro-slaughter activities of the National Tribal Horse Coalition (NTHC), and their connection to the USDA and the U.S. Department of Interior.

The distribution of misinformation provided to tribes by USDA APHIS began several years ago and has made an indelible mark on some tribal leaders’ viewpoints.

It started with the NTHC (formerly known as Northwest Tribal Horse Coalition) which appears to represent a handful of tribes from the Northwest region of the US. However, the movement was expanded through the help & the support of the DOI and USDA-APHIS.

It's important to note that recent polls show that 83% of Americans oppose horse slaughter, and 74% oppose wild horse and burro roundups. Our research into the roundup of horses and burros on tribal lands shows that the majority of tribal people share the same view as the majority of non tribal people in the U.S.; they are adamantly opposed to the roundups and opposed to horse slaughter.

As exposed through the documentary film, “SAVING AMERICA’S HORSES: A NATION BETRAYED”, Agriculture and Forestry have threatened tribes with a loss of livestock grazing permits if they fail to implement management policies. In a statement made for the Confederated Umatilla Journal, a newspaper of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation; Range, Agriculture and Forestry Program Manager Gordy Schumacher warns Tribes that grazing permits are at stake.

“Saving America’s Horses” is a multi-media educational project by Humanion Films, a Program under
Wild for Life Foundation, Inc. (WFLF), a CA 501 (c)(3) nonprofit corporation. The WFLF promotes the
preservation of natural ecosystems, wildlife, and the prevention of cruelty to animals. We strive to
preserve and celebrate Native heritage and cultures through embracing harmonious relationships among
people, animals, and nature. The WFLF is achieving these goals through operating equine sanctuary,
education, and wellness programs.

SAVING AMERICA'S HORSES is of and for the horses. Inspired by the spirit of the horse and filtered
through a compassionate humanitarian lens; SAVING AMERICA'S HORSES illuminates the connection
between the eradication of our wild and domestic equines, its impact on the environment and the future of humanity.

“Saving America’s Horses A Nation Betrayed” combines more than 30 years of research, and features
over 50 of the world’s top equine veterinarians, trainers, and other industry professionals whose
appearances and contributions bring a united voice for the imperative and immediate need for federal
protection of horses and burros from slaughter and roundups.

Celebrity appearances by Paul Sorvino, Ken Wahl, Linda Gray, Willie Nelson, Chief Arvol Looking
Horse, Tippi Hedren, the Barbi Twins and more. Expert testimony by the leaders in veterinary community including Dr. Nicholas Dodman, Dr. Nena Winand, Dr. Elliot Katz, Dr. Temple Grandin and more.
