November 2018 Project Report

By Katia Louise | Director

In October, Saving America’s Horses issued a Crisis Alert and Global Call to Action on behalf of America’s protected wild horses in California, to help Stop the SELLING OFF of Calif. Wild Horses - to SLAUGHTER! And raise AWARENESS and HELP to Save and Keep them SAFE.

Sadly, U.S. Forest Service began the roundup and removal of 1000 wild horses from public forestlands (known as Devil’s Garden Plateau), in Northern California, in October with the intent to sell all horses over the age of 10 years old without limitation – which means they can be sold for slaughter. Yet horse slaughter is illegal California. In fact in California it's a felony for any person in the state to possess, transfer, receive, or hold a horse (defined to include ponies, donkeys and mules) with the intent to kill it, or have it killed, where the person knows, or should have known, that any part of the carcass will be used for human consumption.

This current roundup is just one example of the corrupt and violent expulsion of America’s wild equines from their homes in the wild.  What most people don't realize is that the disinformation campaigns related to our mission are driven by deep pocket special interests who do NOT really care about the horses at all. No matter what you've heard, there is only one truth: horse slaughter is NOT humane euthanasia. Nor is it a "necessary evil".

The CALL TO ACTION to the general public, the International SAVING AMERICA'S HORSES Coalition and its fellow pro-horse alliances asks for supporters to STAND UNITED in OPPOSITION to this outrageous TRAVESTY.

SAVING AMERICA’S HORSES - the documentary film and its multimedia educational program reveals how the public has been misled by government agencies and special interests that run over the laws that are supposed to protect the horses, people and the environment. SAVING AMERICA’S HORSES highlights imminent and urgent health risks to humans and the environmental impact caused by the capture, removal, transport and stockpiling of both wild and domestic horses to be slaughtered for human consumption.

The chief objective of the Saving America's Horses Educational Project is to bring the truth to the public and to effect the changes needed for the protection and preservation of equines in America.

Saving America’s Horses won multiple international awards in the festival circuit including Best Documentary Film and Best Environmental Film, and garnered rave reviews when released bi-coastally to theaters. The theatrical version of the full length film has recently been remastered and updated with new footage, current data and statistics, and is ready to go to the next level.  Your donations through GlobalGiving are helping to widen the release of this landmark documentary to educational venues and beyond, so that the public will have access to the true facts and can take action toward viable solutions for positive change.

Strong federal protection is needed for these animals through a permanent federal protection and bans against the killing and against slaughter in the U.S. in order to put an end to their exportation from the U.S. for slaughter in foreign countries.

With your support through GlobalGiving, we have bolstered the reach and impact of Saving America’s Horses, the film and educational platform, through theatrical release and festival screenings. We have additionally released  a variety of multi-media tools including educational reports, PSA’s, Video Alerts, white papers, brochures and info-graphics, but more must be done to expand the reach of this vital information.

We are reaching out to animal lovers and horse enthusiasts worldwide to help spread the word about the vital need to save and protect America's Horses from unspeakable suffering, malicious harm, and gruesome death. You can help by sharing this information through our page on the GlobalGiving platform. Your support in sharing this important cause will undoubtedly help us to come closer to our goal.

Through GlobalGiving, with your continued kind and generous support, we’ve raised $2310 through 88 donations toward our overall goal of $35,000. Financial contributions will help expand the reach of this powerful educational project to raise compassion, compel the protective measures needed and help save precious lives in real time.

We are deeply grateful for your continued support of SAVING AMERICA'S HORSES. Wild for Life Foundation is an all volunteer 501 c3 charity and we rely 100% on donations. We are touched and encouraged by the showing of compassionate support from the caring GlobalGiving community.

In the coming months, we’ll continue to keep you updated about this lifesaving project and the issues at hand. Thank you very much for your interest and support for all you do to make this important cause possible.

Best wishes,

Katia Louise
