Save Up Program

Who said fashion had to stay inside?  That is a definite NO for one RISE Save Up graduate from Frayser who chose a mobile shoe bar for her micro-enterprise development.  Because of her careful budgeting and effective marketing plan, new business owner A.W. will be hitting the byways of the city with Cherries Shoe Bar in early July 2019.

A.W. sells shoes and handbags through her store and began her plans with the RISE Save Up program in 2017.  She intends to market this venture at community special events and regional trade shows, and has already had a huge response for her products.  Her RISE program coordinator, Ms. Taylor says that A.W. has a great eye for fashion and has a remarkable handle on trends, retailing and inventory control.  “A.W. was always a consistent and faithful saver and was very serious about communicating her challenges or achievements with RISE staff”, said Ms. Taylor. 

RISE matches 2:1 in its Save Up program when participants successfully reach $1,000 in savings toward an asset purchase.  A.W. used her funds to purchase inventory, marketing collateral, portable storage, display equipment and supplies.  She plans to take the proceeds from her sales to invest in her mobile unit later in the year.  A.W. credits the RISE Foundation for assisting her in acquiring the necessary skills to effectively manage her business.
