Dear Supporters,
Thanks to fundraising, there have been number of structural improvements at the Ludoteca that have improved the health and safety of the children and volunteers.
SDG #4 Quality Education, Currently, the Save the Children Ludoteca in Puerto Morelos is operating 5 days a week Monday-Friday from 3:30pm to 7:30pm. Volunteers and staff have been utilizing the donated SmartTV to deliver lessons on a variety of topics. Due to a decrease in the number of volunteers, lesson topics have been narrowed down to English and environmental awareness as a minimum.
The Ludoteca patio has seen a number of renovations that have produced great results. Since the addition of protector frames on the windows, the children have been able to throw and kick balls without risk of injury from broken class. The addition of a new overhead net has prevented balls and play equipment from entering neighbour’s yards and potentially being lost. The net also protects the children from sun overexposure as well as keeps the patio clean and free of excessive leaves. The raising of the patio walls has also helped prevent the loss of equipment in other yards. The enhanced walls also prevent conflict with neighbours with children and volunteers
SDG # 3 Good health and Well-being, Our weekly volunteer lessons included health and physical education workshops, which have been positively impacted by the structural additions to the Ludoteca. Health lessons have required the use of the patio to better demonstrate aspects of the lesson, and the increased wall structures have helped provide privacy and security while lessons are conducted. For physical education lessons, volunteers and staff utilize the patio area for cardio and stretching exercises once a week. Again, the increased wall structures provide privacy and prevent conflict with neighbours while lessons are conducted and provide an overall safer environment to all involved. The structural improvements have overall increased the effectiveness and safety of lessons conducted on the patio.
Renovations to the Save the Children Ludoteca have significantly decreased risks and created a safer environment for play. The renovations have also allowed the Ludoteca patio to be better utilized by volunteers and staff to conduct physical education lessons.
Thank you so much for your continued support!
With Love,
Mexico Childcare Team
