Dear Supporters,
SDG #4 Quality Education, At the moment the Save the Children Ludoteca in Puerto Morelos is on summer school activities, receiving children in two shifts of 4 hours each. At the beginning of the year, The GVI trust has raised money for a SmartTV that since being installed, has improved the quality of lessons as well as allowing the children to watch movies for fun every other Friday. In addition, the speaker donated through funds from the GVI trust has been used in a fashion show, dance competitions and also in day to day activities such as musical chairs and physical activities.
A the ludoteca the children are encouraged to lead discussions and come to agreements on the changes they want to make to the Ludoteca every week. For example, football is one of the most popular sports amongst the children but unfortunately they do not have enough sports equipment or adequate facilities to play together at the Ludoteca. As a result, in one of the meetings the children requested if changes could be made to allow them to play football. From this, GVI decided to run a fundraiser to not only pay for sports equipment but also to upgrade the sports ground to allow the children to play sports safely.
SDG # 17 Partnerships for the Goals, The event brought together GVI volunteers, Save The Children Staff and of course the children and parents of the Ludoteca. Collaboration was through the parents bringing food and drinks for everyone to share at the end, the volunteers and Save The Children Staff coordinated the activities and the children, parents and GVI Marine Conservation volunteers competed in the teams, ensuring a fun day for everyone involved!
Stay tuned to our projects in Mexico for the follow up of our fundraising events that aims to provide sports equipment, improve facilities and provide internet service for a year.
Thank you to all who have inspired and supported children’s education in Puerto Morelos, we have all together created a cohesive team of community members, volunteers and organizations for fundraising to impact on Quality Education.
With Gratitude
