Project Report | Apr 18, 2024
From Cruelty Victim to Happy, Healthy, and Adopted

By Emily Fromm | Chief Development Officer

Thank you for donating to the Petfinder Foundation's Emergency Medical Fund! Your gift has helped pets like Tofino.

Tofino arrived at Northeast SPCA in Saskatchewan, Canada, after suffering multiple cruel cigarette burns.

All of her wounds healed except for one deep burn on her shoulder. With help from our Emergency Medical Grant, the shelter had its vet surgically correct the injury and Tofino has been healing beautifully.

"Despite going through this abuse, Tofino remained the most loving and caring cat," says Carleigh Weixl, the shelter's foster-care coordinator.

"She perked up as soon as someone walked in and started purring before you would even pet her. She did great with all of our other cats and was our perfect 'test' cat to ease other cats into socialization.

"Everyone who met her loved her; the only thing stopping them from adopting was her shoulder wound," Weixl says.

"This grant gave Tofino the opportunity to be adopted. She is currently pending adoption in her foster-to-adopt home."

Thank you for helping us help homeless pets!
