We thank all our supporters for donating towards our campaign to save the lives of malnourished children.
During the three months (1st November 2014 to 31st January2015) 76 malnourished children were admitted (32 Boys and 44 Girls). In this particular period, follow up of 155 children has done and we have successfully discharged 56 children. We make an effort to cure all children who are facing the problem of malnutrition.
The steps to cure a malnourished child:
By following these steps, children who have achieved the target weight of 15% when discharged are asked to come for 4 follow ups to check if they are healthy or have they started losing weight.
We also have done capacity building of mothers and family on health, hygiene and nutrition in both NRC.
UNICEF team also visited NRC Dharbhanga to review the status of quality of NRC as per guidelines and their team appreciated the work done by Nidan at NRC Darbhanga.

Age- 36 months
Urmila who lives in Mahua, her husband name is Manoj. She is having 5 children. Urmila and her husband were illiterate and they work as a farmer, and financially very poor. Sujit (son of Urmila) was not well from many days. She went to many doctors but Sujit didn’t go well. One day a woman of her village told her to go to NRC where children get a proper treatment. But she said her husband does not want them to go there. However with proper counseling she went to NRC Mahua with her child. At the time of admission his weight was:-
Weight – 7.85Kg Length – 79 cm MUAC – 11.0 W/LZ – 2-3 SD
During the time of admission Sujit was so weak as if he will not survive. So, we provided a proper counseling to Urmila and told her about the rules of NRC. Sujit was given time to time feeding and a mix diet of halwa, fruits, daliya etc as WHO guidelines. He was gaining weight day by day approx. 200-250 gm; because of this improvement Sujit parents were very happy. In the next counseling Urmila was guided about importance of vaccination, cleanliness, food prospect for the child. Sujit achieved 15 % target weight after 12 day of his admission only.
At the day of discharge:-
Weight – 9.030 Kg
Length – 79 cm
MUAC – 11.8
W/LZ – 2-1 SD
The whole family was very happy to see the improvement in Sujit.
