Nidan is running a Nutritional Rehabilitation Centre in Bihar. The project helps severe and acute malnourished (SAM) children in the age group of 6 months to 60 months. It's a facility-based care which provides nutritious food & medication to children & mothers. They are discharged only after complete recovery. Mothers are trained on feed preparation, basic healthcare, hygiene and nutrition. So far Nidan has saved 1189 SAM children and wants to save more with your generous support.
The UN estimates that 2.1 million Indian children die every year before reaching the age of 5 -- four every minute. Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) is an important preventable and treatable cause of morbidity and mortality in children below five years of age in India. It is estimated that 8.33 per cent or 9,74,610 children in Bihar are severely and acutely malnourished and are at the highest risk of dying. Those children who are suffering from SAM would get benefit from the program.
Nutrition Rehabilitation Center (NRC) is a unit where children with Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) are treated. In NRC children are admitted and provided with medical and nutritional therapeutic, feed preparation for admitted mothers. Once discharged from the NRC, the child continues to be in the Nutrition Rehabilitation program till she/he attains the defined discharge criteria from the program.
With NRC, Nidan aims to fight with the problem of malnutrition among the children in the age group of 6 months to 60 months in the state of Bihar, India. The long term objective is to save the SAM children from malnutrition and gradually decrease the infant mortality rate in the targeted areas of intervention. With your generous support Nidan will be able to save 100 SAM children. This, in return, will lead to healthy development of these children and of the whole community.
