Summary

Painted Woolly Bats are being hunted for holiday decorations, which threatens their vital role in the ecosystem and has long-term environmental impacts. There is an urgent need for research to understand international trade chains and support stronger protection measures; donations are requested to fund this essential work.

Challenge

Painted Woolly Bats are being hunted and killed in the wild to supply demand for Halloween and Christmas decorations, and for other equally senseless ornaments. These bats play an important role in their natural environment, and losing them will have a lasting impact.

Solution

While the trade is beginning to come to light, we are still in the dark when it comes to understanding the international trade chains and therefore there is little evidence to use to assist governments in protecting the species nationally and internationally.
