With the effects of ‘modernity’ taking its toll Uganda’s towns, iconic buildings are demolished and replaced with ‘modern’ ones, as historical sites disappear before our eyes.
With your generous support over the past few months, we have raised a total of $283 from 8 donors. Your donations have enabled us to embark on the research and documentation exercise aimed at profiling some of the historic properties in Mbale City. A total of 8 properties have been profiled so far, including historical buildings, sites and monuments. The profiling entails the history and significance of the historic properties to the city.
We are also running a competition for young people to increase their appreciation of built heritage and leverage their potential to promote and preserve it, by raising awareness amongst themselves and the community at large. In the competition, young people below the age of 25 are tasked to film a 3-minutes video on either a historic building, site or monument, capturing its unique features, history, significance, and why it should be protected and preserved.
The Cross-Cultural Foundation of Uganda is deeply grateful to all its donors on this campaign. Your kind support strengthens our efforts to preserve and promote cultural heritage for future generations, which is an important part of our cultural identity.
