1. Inception of Emergency Medicine Training Program Masaka
We are very excited to announce the inception of the new GECC Emergency Medicine Training Program at Masaka Regional Referral Hospital. Three ECPs, Teddie, Alfunsi, and JB, moved from Nyakibale to Masaka to open the new program and train the new students. We are very excited about the potential for this program to impact the entire Ugandan health care system.

2. New Junior Class at Nyakibale
We are happy to announce that the 5th Junior class of ECP trainees began their training in October at Nyakibale hospital. This new class has been doing great and we look forward to their continued excellence.

3. Emergency Medicine Residency Program in Uganda
In partnership with Mbarara University, GECC has been working hard to develop and implement the first functioning Emergency Medicine residency program in Uganda. We continue to work with our partners to ready for the launch the new program.

4. Year End Fundraising Challenge
Giving Tuesday kicks off GECC's annual Year End Fundraising Challenge. From Dec. 1-31, our goal is to raise $25,000 to implement and expand our innovative ECP training programs with the goal of building an emergency care system throughout Uganda. Invest in People. Invest in GECC.

New ECP Class Begins Training

Greetings GECC team! I am excited to share with you some important things happening in Uganda over this busy summer. As you know, we received a grant from Ronald McDonald House Charities earlier in the year to expand the ECP Training Program to a second site at Masaka Regional Referral Hospital. Since then, we have been working closely with our Ugandan partners to approve the curriculum through the National Council. After a lengthy process, we are very excited to be at the final step. Once approved, the Masaka ECP Training Program will commence, most likely within the month. The long-term goal for the Masaka site is to open a National ECP Training Center to train ECPs from hospital throughout Uganda.

In conjunction with the ECP Training Program at Masaka, we have been wroking closely with Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) and our Ugnadan stakeholders to open the first Emeregency Medicine Residency Program in Uganda. The Ugandan graduates from this program will manage the most complex emergencies at regional and national referral centers, set policy related to emergency care at a national level, and manage the training of the non-physician cadre. Since there are no Ugandan emergency physicians, the initial group of trainees will become the cornerstone of emergency medicine in Uganda. Our local partners feel strongly that developing the physician and non-physician programs simultaneously will enhance collaboration between the cadres of health workers and create a unified emergency care system that is not only effective but also truly sustainable.

Finally, just a few weeks ago we began training the 5th class of Emergency Care Practitioners at Nyakibale. We are very excited to begin training four new Junior ECPs at Nyakibale. These four will replace the three qualified ECPs who are leaving to become ECP Trainers at the new Masaka site. Although we are sad to see three qualified leave Nyakibale, we are excited that such qualified clinicians will be opening up the new ECP program at Masaka.

We appreciate your support and look forward to an exciting fall with several new programs slated to start. These new programs are an integral part of GECC's long-term sustainability strategy to create an emergency care system in Uganda accessible to all Ugandans managed by Ugandans for Ugandans.
