Dear GlobalGiving community,
Across Ukraine’s frontline communities, many animals are still surviving in places no pet should have to live.
Some were left behind when families fled with only minutes to escape. Some wandered back to damaged homes, waiting for people who may never return. Some hid in gardens, empty yards, broken streets, and abandoned buildings, searching for food and trying to stay alive.
War does not only leave people without safety. It leaves animals without the families, homes, and care they once depended on.
That is why Hope For Ukraine’s Hope Pets Program continues to rescue abandoned pets from Ukraine’s war zones and provide food, shelter, medical care, and a path to recovery.
The animals in these photos show what your support makes possible.
A small dog rests indoors, finally safe enough to close his eyes in the sunlight. Another dog stands outside, alert and full of life, no longer hidden away in fear. A cat rests calmly in soft light, cared for and protected after surviving uncertainty.
These moments may look simple. But for animals affected by war, they are signs of healing.
A safe place to sleep matters.
A full bowl of food matters.
A veterinary exam matters.
A shelter that welcomes a frightened animal matters.
Through Hope Pets, rescued animals are brought into trusted shelters where they receive clean water, food, medical care, and time to recover. When animals cannot be rescued right away, food deliveries help keep them alive until they can be moved to safety.
This work happens because people choose to care.
Your support helps provide rescue transport, food deliveries, veterinary care, wound treatment, vaccinations, shelter support, and daily care for animals left behind by the war.
Every rescue begins with compassion. But it does not end when an animal is brought out of danger. Recovery takes time. Many pets arrive frightened, hungry, injured, or unsure if they can trust people again. With steady care, they begin to rest. They begin to eat. They begin to feel safe.
That is the second chance your generosity helps provide.
There are still many abandoned pets waiting in dangerous areas. Some are still hiding. Some are still hungry. Some are still sleeping outside, exposed to cold, injury, and fear.
Because of donors like you, more animals can be found, fed, treated, sheltered, and given the chance to recover.
Thank you for helping abandoned pets in Ukraine receive the care and safety they deserve.
With gratitude,
Hope For Ukraine
