Hi all. Thank you for your support of the Opioid Crisis Response Fund, and of our effort to fund peer-to-peer naloxone distribution in Downriver Detroit.
We collected almost $1,300 from you during the course of our GlobalGiving campaign. Those funds were disbursed to us about a month after the campaign closed. OCRF then added additional funds from other sources to this amount to present our local partner, Harm Reduction Michigan (HRMI; https://www.harmreductionmi.org/), with a naloxone supply grant of $5,000 in total. Of that amount, HRMI will use the $1,300 you provided to fund peer-based naloxone in Downriver Detroit. HRMI is free to use the remainder of the $5,000 grant from OCRF to fund peer-based naloxone distribution anywhere in Michigan where they determine support to be most urgently needed. OCRF is waiting for the ED of HRMI to execute the grant contract, and then we will deploy the funds within days.
To update you on OCRF's progress more broadly, impact reports are in from our six orignal grantees tracking their progress since we intially got funding to them 6 months ago. The results indicate that, through the work of these grantees, OCRF funding is saving nearly 4 lives a day at an average cost of $207 per life saved. We believe this is probably the highest rate of effectiveness nationwide of any funder of response to the overdose crisis. And we expect the impact of your support for peer-based naloxone in Downriver Detroit to track in line with these results.
