Mrs. Nkechi one our recent project beneficiaries arrived at the venue of the Nnadozie Foundation maternal health outreach looking obviously malnourished and unkempt. She was 5 months pregnant at the time and was clearly going through very difficult times. Pregnancy is such an important time in a womans life and care must be taken to ensure that the nuitritional and psychosocial needs of a woman are provided at this time. Unfortunately due to the high level of poverty in Nigeria many pregnant and nursing mothers cannot afford balanced meals and necessary supplies to have a safe and healthy pregnancy and child birth.
Through our project Mrs. Nkechi was able to receive much needed psychosocial support such as food items as well as clean delivery kits containing items needed for a hygienic delivery such as delivery mats, sterile gloves, liquid antiseptic, cotton wool and more. She also received treated bed nets to protect from malaria caused by mosquito bites.
At the end of the program Mrs. Nkechi and other women were also equipped with the information and materials to support a healthy pregnancy and delivery. We are also sensitizing the women to adopt proper family planning .
Our goal is to ensure that underserved women get an equal chance to have a healthy and stressfree pregnancy and birth . It is a well known fact that there is an intmate link between a healthy pregnancy and new born survival. We will continue to work tirelessly to reach many more women in Nigeria.
