Greetings from SANKALP team
New session for 2013-2014 started after summer break on 6th June. We have total 27 children in this session. The Psychological assessment of each child has also been completed to record the status with respect to the disability level and also to compare the same with last session to note the progress and to design the IEP for each child for the current session.
Medical advisory board constituted by SANKALP in March is also functional with Dental; ENT & pediatric check up of the children already being done. Remaining specialists shall also carry out their respective checkups shortly.
With the availability of funds, a sensory integration room & physiotherapy unit was setup at Sankalp on 17th March, a week ahead of targeted schedule. An experienced therapist has also started giving sensory integration and physiotherapy to all needy children. Speech therapy is already being given to the children suffering from speech impairment. These therapies along with special educators giving Individual Education Plan (IEP) to all children will certainly help in their rehabilitation process in the coming days.
One of Sankalp’s children Saddam who comes on a tricycle needed replacement of his old cycle which was completely worn out. Sankalp gave him a new tricycle.
Though the progress has been noted in all children in varying degree, a specific case of 31 year old boy Pritesh having a mental age of only 6 years 4 months is worth mentioning. He suffers from mental retardation & speech impairment. We are happy to inform that Pritesh has shown considerable improvement in functional skills as well as in speech besides actively participating in other activities. It can therefore, be assumed that continuous training & rehabilitation plan will yield good result in his overall improvement. We would emphatically say that it is YOU who made all this possible.

My son Pritesh is coming to Sankalp Centre since last 4 years. He earlier never used to take part in any activities, but now for a long time he participates enthusiastically in all activities and he even won an award in the “Khel Mahakumbh”. Besides there has been an improvement in his speech & he can now pronounce the words better. He is now learning the money transactions. I thank all the staff of this centre.” – CPH Patel
