Dear Kind Hearts
Greetings from team SANKALP.
Samir is a 17 year old intellectually challenged boy. He joined Sankalp’s training and rehabilitation program in June 2017. His father who was a daily wage labour has expired and mother is doing house maid’s job in few houses. She doesn’t have resources to take care of Samir so she brought him to Sankalp.
At the time of joining Sankalp his self-confidence as well as self-esteem was very low and though he was going to some school but his academic level was almost nil. He was not able to read or write anything. Two years of training at Sankalp has enabled him to write his name and address, he can do meaningful counting up to ten, has learned money transaction up to Rs. 10 and his basic concepts are also developed now. He took active part in making “Diyas” and “Rakhies” during the last festival season and his confidence level is on the rise. His progress in pre-vocational activities has been quite good.
Considering his age, level of intelligence and his area of interest, Sankalp’s experts decided to focus more on giving him vocational activity from this year. As reported in the last progress report, we have purchased a photocopier machine for giving training in making copies to those children who are now ready for it. We also appointed a trainer for giving the training.
Accordingly, 10 children including Samir have been selected for this training. The initial results are quite encouraging and we hope that by the end of this year some of them will become reasonably well trained and they will be able to operate the machine independently with confidence.
We are confident that this training will not only boost Samir’s self-confidence but also his self-esteem. Once he is fully trained he can look for a suitable employment or may be able to become economically independent if he can get some financial assistance to establish his own small photo-copying shop.
This will be the real life changing empowerment for children with developmental disabilities. We’re sure that it will also be a great satisfaction to all our donors that their support has brought positive change in the lives of less privileged members of our society.
Until the next report a big THANK YOU for your support to our project. We will be updating YOU as this project progresses & what impact YOUR donation is making in the lives of mentally/developmentally challenged children at Sankalp.
Our website www.mpctrust.org is still under renovation and we hope to launch a new and much better website in the near future.
