Dear ACT Champion,
Greetings from Mumbai!
How are things on the Covid -19 situation and how are people doing, within your family and friends circle? We remain concerned and pray for everyone’s safety.
In Mumbai, after 100 days of complete lockdown, the cases have continued to rise but life has to go on. Due to economic compulsions we are in a state of partial lockdown. Some of our centres (after deep sanitization and prep for Covid prevention protocols: masks, hand sanitizing, social distancing, etc.) have opened and income generation activities have begun with a specified roster of artisans (working 4 hours each) limiting the numbers in a centre at a given time to 10 (as per government mandate).
In 7 other states of India, our 21 project coordinators are scouring hundreds of villages, meeting the community women and promoting Covid safety practices, social distancing and the importance of sanitation and hygiene.
It is far worse in remote tribal villages of Dadra & Nagar Haveli (DNH). There is zero income in the distressed homes and we will have to find ways to support the most needy among them with survival rations and wages in the coming months. More needs to be done and we count on our donors' support to partner with us for providing relief where it is needed the most.
Till date, we have sponsored the distribution of over 125 monthly staples to the destitute families in tribal villages and supported over 700 children, youth & women in tribal families. Some pics of the distribution of urgent staples have been captured and shared for your perusal.
18 of our community mental health workers based in DNH have been working diligently across 8 of the most backward villages and soing door to do family surveys to understand their emotional stress and other ill effects of the lockdown within the household, and to allay their anxieties.
We are so thankful for all the support that you have rendered to ACT and the projects' beneficiaries, and we are eager to reciprocate by passing it forward with diligence and integrity.
We wish the world heals soon and may we emerge stronger, safer and wiser. And we urge that the poorest of the poor remain in your prayers and heart.
